the belly

Mr. S and I were away this weekend, for a wedding. It was 2 states away, and a very long drive! The 'have to pee' factor definitely added time to the trip, but not terribly. Googlem.aps said 7hr50min and we took 9hr15min, incl. gas and food stops.

While at the welcome dinner, I had my first "I have been wanting to touch your belly" comment. It surprised me, as my belly is round, etc, but at 5 1/2 months, not that exciting, I would think. Especially since no one else can feel movement yet. So, I let that person(the cool, funky florist) touch, and when I mentioned it to someone else, she said, "I've been wanting to as well!" Too funny.

Maybe it has to do with being at a wedding? Hopefulness, symbolic fertility, etc. I realized that a good friend was 5 months pregnant at our wedding, and she dealt with infertility as well. I have strong wishes that my newly-wed friend has no such struggle!

The baby movements are getting stronger and I love it. I love feeling the hops, flips and kicks. I spent a lot of time last week watching to see if movement was visible, and it now is! Mr. S may have felt movement last night, when I was reading in bed and felt some big movements and called him up to try to feel.

In other news, a dear friend had her baby last Thursday. I can't wait to meet her.

  1. that must be interesting, having people wanting to touch your belly. At least they were polite. A friend of mine was really upset when people wouldn't even ask before placing their hands on her. And I agree with you, that at a wedding, it would also make sense that people want to touch your belly because of the fertility meaning of it. After so much struggle, that is sure a welcome change ;)

  2. How awesome! (Especially that they asked first!)

  3. When did you feel the baby move for the first time? I can't wait to feel them. I'm hoping I'll be able to feel them earlier since there are two.

Sounds like you had a nice trip!

  4. I don't mind people touching the belly if they ask first. I have yet to have somebody go right in for the uninvited touch, but I'm sure it's coming!
